It amazes me how life gets so rushed at times, church meetings, youth meetings, band practice, home groups. Where are we to find the time to spend with God in all this? Two days ago I spoke about starting your day out with God before things began to get so busy. Today I want to chat about what is it that makes us so busy!
It's amazing how easy it is for things to get on our to do list! Ministry requires us to multitask. The temptation is there to get sucked into everything. I remember having a conversation with a great youth pastor. We where discussing how over booked our diaries had become and why that was, "I'm good at everything and that's the problem" she said. She genuinely put a lot of time into everything giving her all, but pretty soon people started to notice this and this resulted in people giving her more responsibility! Burn out was invertible; soon her life took strain including her family.
Think about the cost of putting that task on your to do list? It will consume time, effort, motivation and energy. These results in having to take from one place of your life in order to meat the need. It's OK to say NO at times. Practice saying no if need be. we say yes easily but NO is a tough one some times!
Jethro saw how much Moses had to do for the people, and he asked, "Why are you the only judge? Why do you let these people crowd around you from morning till evening?" Moses answered, "Because they come here to find out what God wants them to do. They bring their complaints to me, and I make decisions on the basis of God's laws." Jethro replied: That isn't the best way to do it. Exodus 18 vs. 14 - 17.
