I was recently asked the question of youth and transport thought my answer may be of worth to some of you?

My opinion is that youth who have a valid driver's license and car, are great resources if you can trust them.

Emphasis on the word trust. When I first started youth ministry, I made the mistake of asking one of the young guys to help with transport, I had no idea how irresponsible he was at the time. He sped off almost causing 2 accidents. One of those situations was seen by an elder and thus there where some serious question regarding my leadership.

The point I am trying to make is who ever is doing the transporting must realize the consequences of there actions and the value of there cargo.

I suggest you set rules, like they have to stay within seeing distance of the transporting car ahead of them. I don’t think it's a good idea for any one to be allowed to use there motor cycle. Make sure you have a valid indemnity form signed by the parents with contact numbers.

I recommend you have the youth dropped of at the church and from there you put them in to cars. A great way to avoid clicks is to move them around allot and for them to sit in different cars to there buddies. From there you asses who is a responsible driver and who is not, adult and youth both! We have older leaders who I trust to run a group but don’t trust to drive the youth, so I never let them drive. If they give me a hard time I simple let them drive by themselves to an event ore ask them to leave. It's not nice but ultimately you're in charge of the lives of those kids.

I really hope this helps. I would recommend you register on the site and post your question on the form as well.

Please let me know if their are any other questions.

I will be praying for your ministry

Blessings
